Learning At The Drop Of An Egg

Fifth-grade teacher Alan Ammann energizes a crowd of students using a toy airplane with a raw egg strapped in the cockpit.

Sixty-two fifth-grade students at Julia Randall Elementary were challenged to build a container that would protect a raw egg from breaking after a 40-foot drop.

Top right, 11-year-old Amber Cabaniss successfully used a hollowed-out Nerf ball and a parachute for her egg cradle.

The annual event is designed to help children develop ingenuity and have fun with physics.
