TONTO VILLAGE

Tonto Village will be losing a resident of our little community May 1. Michele Montbleau will be leaving us to move to Nashville, Tenn.

Payson residents know Michele as the owner of Nails For You for about the past four years. Michele has been a manicurist for about 17 years, both teaching and running her shop. She will be giving up this line of work to continue her first love, that of the ministry, and finishing her schooling on faith healing, and getting married. Michele has loved being in Payson, and in particular Tonto Village. But now her interests are taking her to another part of the country.

She said she will miss all of her clients and all the friends she has made over the years. We all will miss you, Michele.

Tonto Village Fire District

Reports from Fire Chief J.R. Alliger:

Two of our volunteer firemen took top honors in the EMT class that was held at the Christopher/Kohl's fire station. Kent Courtney was the instructor of the Thursday classes.

Mark Deardon placed first and Bullet Garrett placed second out of a class of 18. Great job, guys.

Congratulations to both of you. Mark also has started a new job this week. He is now a sheriff's deputy with the Gila County Sheriff's Department. Good luck on your new job, Mark.

The firemen were busy this weekend with a small wildland fire near water well No. 2. The fire was quickly extinguished. The cause of the fire was the high wind. Please be sure that if you start a fire either in a fire well or burning brush that you stay with that fire, don't leave it. The forest is drying out quickly and the needles are quick starters, so please be careful and be mindful of the weather conditions.

A group called the ‘Arizona Partnership for Forest Health' has been formed to work closely with the Forest Service and local fire districts to be an instructional group to help homeowners to be able to create a safe haven or fire breaks around your property. These meetings will take place at association meetings throughout the summer.

Call the Tonto Village Fire Department office at 478-4875 for more information on when the various meetings will be taking place. Thompson Draw II is tentatively set for the first meeting.

Good sports

The Double D Bowling team, also known as the Sundowners, bowled their way to first place this past Monday night at our local bowling alley. Team members include Danny and Ethel Cain, Tom Dunney, Cassie Reeves, and George Saba. Congratulations to all of you on your great bowling.

Candy Hart, Micelle Bundy and Ethel Cain took top honors in Tuesday evening's Ladies pool tournament. There was no Sunday tournament because of the Easter holiday.

The Ladies Dominoes Group is still going strong every Wednesday afternoon at various homes in the Village. There is a lot of competition, and a lot of laughs, along with great snacks.

If you would like to play any Wednesday, just give Charlie Martin a call at 478-4608.
