There are new faces at the clinic of Advanced Cardiac Specialists on East Cedar Street.
The clinic now has Dr. Jennifer Cool and Dr. Jason Cool on staff with Nurse Practitioner Molly Moore. Dr. Lisa Marie York, who was previously dividing her time between the ACS clinics in Payson and Pine, is now in Pine full-time.
The Cools are from Milwaukee, Wis., where they worked for a large medical-services company.
"We wanted to get back to a small town. I grew up in a small town and we have two small children we were raising in the middle of urban Milwaukee. This is a nice place to be. The kids can play outside without us worrying about what might be out there," Jennifer said.
"We had thought if we were going to be in Arizona we'd like to be in either Payson or Prescott, but it is still very coincidental that we ended here," she said.
Jennifer primarily works with adults, but will also see some teens. She does not see children though. She will focus on such things as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart and lung diseases, gastrointestinal problems, the thyroid, and arthritis.
"It is a general practice field. Both of us have the attitude that doctors are advisors. The patients are in charge of their health, we're here to help them, not tell them how to live their lives. The patient makes the decision," Jennifer said.
Because their children are only four and 18 months, Jennifer will only be working part-time she said.
She said she is very excited to be at the clinic though, "We have an incredible medical support staff here. Our goal is to provide good quality care in a timely fashion."
As for the future, Jennifer said there is a lot being considered, such as expanding with more providers and services.
"We'd like to do cardiac testing every day, plus heart and vascular ultrasounds. We're looking at moving to a larger facility," she said.
Jason's speciality is general and invasive cardiology.
The Cools moved to Payson in July of this year and started at the clinic Aug. 1.
"In general, in this clinic what I see from the existing providers and staff, is these people genuinely care about the patients and what needs to be done. While it is a little crowded in here, what I like most is that we have a working environment where we're all on the same page. Patients get as good a service as we can provide and appropriate care," Jason said.
Jason will not be at the Payson Advanced Cardiac Specialists clinic on Wednesdays. He must go to Phoenix on a weekly basis to work in heart catheterizations.
The Payson Advanced Cardiac Specialists clinic can be reached at 474-9190, beginning at 9 a.m., Monday through Friday.
