Robert (Bob) Paul, 83, of Payson, died Aug. 12, 2003. He was born March 10, 1920 in Moline, Ill.
Mr. Paul, Major USAF (Retired), served in World War II and Korea. As a photo reconnaissance pilot in World War II, he flew the P-38. He served as senior pilot and command pilot and retired from the Air Force after 23 years of service in 1960 at Truax AFB, Wis.
He and his wife, Lavetta, came to Payson in 1982. He was active on the Airport Board with the town of Payson for several years, and subsequently he and his wife acquired and operated Class Cleaners for 15 years.
Mr. Paul was a member of the Retired Officers Association, Masonic Lodge, Accepted Scottish Rite - Lodge Council Chapter Consistory - Valley of Madison, and the El Zariba Zane Grey Shrine Club.
He is survived by his wife Lavetta of Payson; five daughters, Katie Waller, Carol Leyva, Kris Nulliner and Wendy Bruscato, all of Phoenix, and Marianne Paul of Prescott; sister, Ethel Armstrong of Youngtown; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
All his family and friends will miss him.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Paul.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15 at Messinger Payson Funeral Home, 302 W. Aero Dr.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, also at Messinger Payson Funeral Home.
