Lake reports

Apache: Fishing is fair. Crankbaits and spinnerbaits are working well early and late in the day. Wired Worms and Texas rigged plastics have been catching quite a few bass after dark.

Bartlett: Fishing is fair to good. Worms and jigs have been working well in the evening and after dark. Daytime action has come on fast moving cranks and topwaters by casting to boils.

Pleasant: Fishing is slow. Some anglers have been able to catch some deep bass on outside reefs. Carolina rigs and dropshot worms seem to be working best from 30-50 feet.

Roosevelt: Fishing is fair to good. Most of the action for bass has been coming on worms during the evening. Anglers have had success from 10-25 feet on points and breaks.

Saguaro: Fishing is fair. Texas rigged plastics have been catching some bass. Yellow bass and some largemouth have also been biting on spoons and blade baits.

High country waters

Note to Mogollon Rim anglers: Monsoon storms can sometimes result in trout actively feeding just before and after the rain. Don't get caught on the water during a thunderstorm.

Chevelon Canyon: Fishing is fair to good for rainbow trout. Try lures such as Z-Rays, Panther Martin spinners, Rapalas and flies (wooly worms, wooly buggers and peacock ladies). It's summer, so fish early in the morning and late in the evening. Anglers are catching rainbow trout on wooly worms early in the morning.

Bear Canyon: Fishing is fair to good. Try worms, Power Bait, lures and flies. Fishing is best early and late in the day.

Black Canyon: The boat ramp is accessible. Fishing is good for rainbow trout. Try using worms and Power Bait as well as Z-Rays, Panther Martin spinners and Crickhopper lures. Flies such as wooly worms, wooly buggers and peacock ladies are also effective. Fish early and late in the day.

Willow Springs: The boat ramp is accessible. Fishing is good. Try worms, Power Bait, lures and flies. The lake has been stocked with catchable-size rainbow trout. Fish early and late in the day. This lake also has largemouth bass.

Woods Canyon: The boat ramp is accessible. The fishing is good. The lake has been stocked with catchable-size rainbow trout. Try worms, Power Bait, lures and flies. Fish early and late in the day.

Green Valley Lake: Fishing is fair to good. This lake is part of the urban fishing program and requires an urban fishing license. The lake contains rainbow trout, bluegills and catfish. Power Bait, salmon eggs and worms are effective. Try crappie jigs, small Rapalas, crankbaits and small spoons.

Chevelon Creek: Try worms, Power Bait, lures and flies in the deeper pools.

Note to White Mountain anglers: Call the Forest Service for fire restriction information. Things are warming up and the trout will be more active in the early morning and late afternoon but monsoon storms could spark a bite during the day.

Becker: The boat ramp is accessible. Fishing is fair. Try Power Bait or worms with marshmallow early in the morning. Use some weight to get it out a ways or use a boat. Also try trolling lures and small flies.

Big Lake: Fishing is fair. The lake contains rainbow, cutthroat, brook and Apache trout. Try worms, Power Bait and lures like cowbells, Crickhoppers and Super Dupers. Flies such as peacock ladies, wooly worms and wooly buggers have also been effective. Use the South Cove boat ramp. The water level is low at the other two boat ramps. Boat anglers are doing better than shore anglers. There are boat rentals available at the store.

Concho: Fishing is fair. Fish for trout in the early morning near the dam or by the boat ramp. Try worms, Power Bait and flies.

Crescent: The water level is low and the lake is weedy. The west side boat ramp is the most accessible. The lake was stocked with catchable-size brook trout in May. Try worms, Power Bait and flies. Try using a casting bubble with an artificial fly or bait.

Greer: Fishing is fair. Try worms, Power Bait, lures and flies. River Reservoir has been stocked with catchable-size rainbow trout. All reservoirs are low so use caution when launching a boat.

Hulsey: Fishing is fair to good. Fishing will be best in the early morning hours and late in the day.
