Go Hog Wild At 4-H Animal Auction

Grab your checkbook and support our children. It's time for the Pine animal auction.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, the hogs and lambs are weighed in. Hog and lamb showmanship is at 10 a.m. and goat showmanship is at noon.

The market animal auction begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13. The maximum weight you pay on a hog is 250 pounds. If an animal exceeds the maximum weight, you only pay the 250-pound limit.

Roland Farabee of Farabee's Farm Fresh Meats is the meat processor and will be there at the time of the auction. You may discuss with him the cuts you want and he will provide information on his smoke process. If someone would like to bid with a co-buyer, let the auction people know and they might find someone who will share the cost and the meat.

The 4-H students have worked hard all year on their projects. This is the time we can show our support and encouragement. Also, it is a good time for a prospective 4-H-er to come talk with this group and find out what it is all about. All events take place at the Pine Barn.

If you have read the book, "The Red Tent," by Anita Diamant, don't miss the discussion led by Kathleen Alexander-Young at 1 p.m. tomorrow (Aug. 23), at the Isabelle Hunt Memorial Library in Pine. It is a wonderful book.

Also the Library Friends are having their used-book sale on Aug. 29 and 30 at the library.

Help the Pine/Strawberry School while shopping at Bashas' supermarket. Link the school's identification number, 29029, with your Bashas' card and a percentage of what you spend will be donated to the school. What a painless way to help our school. Thanks to Bashas' for providing this great program.

The Pine/Strawberry School has a vacancy on its governing board. Anyone interested in serving should contact the school principal, Kathe Ketchem, at (928) 476-3283. School superintendent, Armida Bittner from Globe, will interview candidates and install the new board member. This is a wonderful opportunity to support our school and contribute to the future of our school children.

Labor Day weekend is just a week away. There will be lots of activities in Pine and Strawberry including the Arts and Crafts Festival at the Pine Community Center. Kiwanis will have their famous pancake breakfast each morning. Watch for word on other activities and events that weekend.

If I do not know about an event, I cannot write about it.

Please provide information about your upcoming event in Pine or Strawberry no later than Wednesday morning of the week before the event. Call or fax (928) 476-2239 or e-mail cpwrather@earthlink.net.
