How About A Punitive Water Usage Rate?

Kudos to the Payson Roundup and Public Works Director Buzz to take the bold initiative and go public with the Top 10 Commercial/Residential water users list.

Trust me, if anyone wants to sit down with a calculator, I'll be more than happy to accommodate.

Three one-thousandths of 1 percent (Top 20 Commercial/ Residential water users) use 13.45 percent of the monthly total water consumption of Payson -- equal to 621 potential household users. More disturbing is that the cost for me and the other 71 percent of Payson water users is 60 percent higher than what the top 20 are paying on a per gallon basis.

What we need is a punitive water usage rate charge that gets to Mr. Walker's comments regarding a "death penalty rate" for residential and commercial users! Reward conservation with the appropriate credits and punish the users with exorbitant debits.

Life-sustaining water is a precious resource, most especially in the Southwest United States. Without man's ingenuity, God knows this geographical area was meant to be an arid desert. If we don't do what we have to do today, tomorrow will be hellfire!
