The Payson High School boys and girls basketball teams will host a benefit fish-fry meal from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Dec. 17 in the Rim Country Middle School cafeteria.
Tickets, priced at $5 for adults and $3 for children, may be purchased from any PHS basketball player or at the door. A family of four can purchase a ticket for $15.
The proceeds from the fish fry will be used to purchase much needed team items that are not available in the school's athletic budget. In past years, funds have been used to defray the expenses of traveling to tournaments, purchasing equipment and to offset the costs of hosting tournaments. Without the funds earned from the dinners, the coaches couldn't maintain the quality of their hoop programs.
It's a great cause, so purchase your tickets and enjoy a fine meal to be cooked up by Duke Wilbanks and friends.
Rim pair finishes fourth
The Rim country fishing team of Clifford Pirch and Reese Randall split $1,097 in prize money for their fourth-place finish in the AllStar Bass team tournament Dec. 7 at Roosevelt Lake. The two weighed in a six fish limit of 8.45 pounds. According to AllStar officials the two fished jerk baits, spinner baits, spider jigs and drop-shot worms on points all over the lake. The team is sponsored by Skeeter Boats, Yamaha outboards, Tempe Marine, Rogue Rods, The Tackle Box and Intermountain West.
Credit for Kids
School officials are urging taxpayers to remember Rim country schools before the end of the year.
Dec. 31 is the deadline to make your donations to the Credit for Kids program, a school funding measure passed by the state Legislature in 1997. It directs a portion of your tax money to the school district of your choice rather than to the Arizona Department of Revenue.
Participants do not have to have children in the district, and do not even have to live in the district. Donations must be made by Dec. 31, 2003 in order to be eligible for the tax credit this year.
Money raised through the Credit for Kids program must be used exclusively for extracurricular activities, but academic benefits also accrue. The dollar-for-dollar tax credit allows a $200 credit for individual taxpayers and $250 for married taxpayers filing jointly.
More information also can be obtained by calling the school district office at (928) 474-2070.
