A fire Tuesday night damaged a trailer in the Star Valley Motel RV Park, according to Star Valley Fire Marshal John Wisner.
"The woodstove is highly suspect at this time," Wisner said. "But the definite cause is still under investigation."
Diamond Star and Payson fire departments were dispatched a little after 8 p.m. when neighbors saw smoke coming out of the trailer.
Although there was not heavy fire damage, Wisner said most of the owner's property was lost to smoke damage.
"A couple of pets were also lost in the fire," Wisner said. "A kitten and an iguana."
No one was in the home at the time, Wisner said.
"My understanding was that the owner was not home, but somewhere in the area," he said.
Wisner said the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
"If there is any sort of questionable situation, we will keep custody of the scene by having one of the volunteer police organization sit on it overnight so no one tampers with it, but this one seemed so obvious that we just taped it off," Wisner said.
By Friday, Wisner said he had determined that some wood, piled up near the stove, had caught fire.
"It appeared that there was actually a piece of wood in contact with the stove," Wisner said. "We now believe that was the cause."
