A pair of season-ending victories -- today (Tuesday) at Blue Ridge and Feb. 7 in Wilson Dome vs. Show Low --ill send the Lady Longhorns (5-3 in the East) into the regional tournament with a highly advantageous No. 2 seed.

The region tournament tips off Feb. 11 at the home site of the high seed, based on regular season finishes, and continues Feb. 14 and 15 in Eagar/ Springerville.

The Lady Horns' 74-57 thumping of Alchesay Friday night in Wilson Dome represented a huge step towards earning an East region runner-up finish in coach Krystal Garvin's first year at the helm of the program.

In whipping the Falcons, Payson jumped to an early 16-11 lead and extended it to 35-25 at halftime.

In the second half, Payson kept up the pressure offensively and defensively outscoring the Falcons 39-32. A well-balanced offense that had four players in double figures was led by Autumn Herrera and Tanya Davis who finished with 13 points each.

Entering the final week of the season, the Lady Horn cause has been paced most of the season by the one-two punch of Ashli Herrera and Trista Carlton. Both sport scoring averages in double digits and are also the Lady Horns' leading rebounders.

On the defensive end, Ashli Herrera leads the team in blocked shots and steals. The floor leader most of the season has been assist-leader and point guard Haylee Huff.
