James "Red" Newkirk, 80, of Strawberry, died Feb. 5, 2003. He was born Dec. 12, 1922 in Beaudry, Ark.
Mr. Newkirk came to Arizona in 1931 where he worked as a superintendent of pre-stress concrete. He was active in the Pine-Strawberry Horseman's Association.
Survivors include his wife, Carol of Strawberry; daughters, Brenda Dickinson of Carlsbad, Calif. and Carol Burdett of Las Vegas; son, Steve Newkirk of Santa Ynez, Calif.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9 at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Road in Scottsdale.
