Joan Gates Simson

Joan Gates Simson, died Jan. 27, 2003, in San Diego, Calif.

She was born June 21, 1929 in Gunnison, Colo., to a locomotive engineer, Harry J. Gates and Maude Frances Gates.

Mrs. Simson grew up in Gunnison and moved to Phoenix in 1945.

In the summer of 1947, she was introduced to her husband of 53 years, William A. Simson.

She was a member of the Beta Sigma Fi Sorority and the Payson Lioness Club.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Francey Eitenmiller.

Survivors include her husband, William; daughters, Wendy Willhite and Lisa Wallace; son, Gary A. Simson; sons-in-law, Duane Eitenmiller, Gary Wallace and Dan Willhite; grandchildren, Melanie and Eric Eitenmiller, Jesse and Heather Anderson, Gary, Amber and Catrina Simson; great-granddaughters Yasmine, Mikayla, Kelani, and Kaili; and sisters, Kay Mitchell and Billie Dunshee.

Services will be private on Mrs. Simson birthday where she will be laid to rest on the sea surrounding Point Loma, Calif.
