Regarding Kelly Crowley's article "Local family a casualty of state cutbacks" (Jan. 10 issue):
The United States does indeed have a form of socialized medicine. The article accurately describes exactly how socialized medicine works by detailing the Kendall family's woeful experiences "at the mercy of" socialized medicine.
The first three paragraphs of the article are pure editorializing. The implied suggestion that every citizen should join the Kendalls at the mercy of a government bureaucracy deciding what medical care can and cannot be received by every individual is abhorrent.
I prefer to see reporting in front page articles, and editorializing on the editorial page.
