Scheduling conflicts at Show Low High School and inclement weather that caused postponement of some athletic contests in mid-December have resulted in several late Payson High School schedule changes.
In boys and girls basketball, the PHS teams traveled to Alchesay Whiteriver Jan. 17 and will host the Falcons Jan. 31 in Wilson Dome. Original schedules had those games played vice-versa.
Another change involves the games pitting Payson against the Show Low Cougars.
Originally, PHS was to host Show Low today (Tuesday) and travel to the White Mountains Feb. 7.
With the change, Payson visits Show Low today and hosts the Cats Feb. 7. Game times remain the same as on original schedules.
According to PHS athletic director Dave Bradley, the changes were made to accommodate Show Low because the school was sorting through scheduling conflicts caused by the December storms.
The wrestling schedule has undergone one major change. Jan. 29, the Longhorns will host a five-way meet in Wilson Dome. Blue Ridge, Holbrook, Snowflake and Estrella Foothills are set to participate.
Although the date is a school day (Wednesday), the match will begin at 12:30 p.m.
Originally, Payson, Snowflake and Estrella were to clash Dec. 18 in Wilson Dome, but that match was postponed.
In the five-way meet, Payson's contests against Blue Ride and Snowflake will be all-important East matches.
The results of those will be used to help determine the regular season region champion.
