Local business people and other interested parties came in high numbers to the Payson Regional Economic Development Corporation's dinner Tuesday night at Mario's to get an overview of future strategic planning for the town's economic growth.
Focused Future II, sponsored by Arizona Public Service, outlines a strategy that the business community hopes will foster greater economic growth for the Rim country.
According to Sally Odette, a senior consultant on community relations and economic growth for APS, the objectives of Focus Future II are to "translate vision into quantifiable and meaningful measures of economic progress and quality of life."
In the coming months, PREDC will be putting this plan into action by forming an action team as well as focus groups to better understand the trends and issues in the region.
Scott Flake, director of the PREDC, said that APS is facilitating the year-long process of Focused Future II.
"APS has been very supportive in our region's economic development," Flake said.
According to Flake, the action group -- consisting of one person from each sector such as retail, real estate, and banking -- is currently being formed. The focus group formation will come later on in the process.
"The idea is that we are all focusing on the same goals for economic development and quality of life. We want to complement each other and work synergistically rather than each of us going in a different direction," Flake said. "Our community can accomplish more working together."
