Youngsters struggle in a tug-of-war match Friday afternoon as part of the town's Fourth of July celebration, which included family games, live music, and fireworks.
Michelle Beach, Payson Parks and Recreation Department events and activities coordinator, said the turnout for the festivities was "more than we had anticipated." Beach said she and the department were planning for about 3,000 people, but she guessed Friday's turnout at 5,000.
While she said the only problems were backed-up rest rooms, garbage and long lines for the shuttle ride back to Rumsey Park, she added that overall, it was a "pretty successful event."
After listening to the crowd's "ooh's and ah's," Beach said she thought the fireworks were the biggest hit of the evening.
