If there's such a thing as a bonding event to anchor a newcomer to his community, the Green Valley Park July 4th fireworks display was it for me.
Small-town comfort, big-time fireworks, and a pleasant, patriotic feel. My thanks to all responsible for this.
I arrived in Payson six months ago and with this event came my clearest sense of belonging. The calm evening, pleasant surroundings and patriotic, yet contemporary, recorded music seemed to expand the experience beyond the amazing sights and sounds.
And as I stood across from the stage in the memorial area, the clear light show frequently highlighted the three flags plus the plaques that honor our servicemen. And that solidly brought me home to appreciate some things we at times take for granted: our freedom, our losses, what's behind our 4th of July, and our quality of life in Payson.
Sometimes it helps to be reminded of what we value. Thanks again to all.
