When Rim country fans last enjoyed an APS Power Play tour, monsoon downpours sent people running for cover. The rain, however, didn't dampen the enthusiasm of those who visited the event last summer at Green Valley Park. On hand for autographs at that tour were Phoenix Coyotes players Drake Berehowsky and Brian Savage.
When the 2003 version of the tour visits Payson from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 14, it will feature a few changes.
Rather than being held at Green Valley Park, the events will move to the Rim Country Mall on East Highway 260. Also, Coyotes Krystofer Kolanos and Chris Gratton will replace Berehowsky and Savage as special guests
For $5, which will be donated to Coyote charities, townspeople can have their pictures taken with Kolanos and Gratton.
Probably the most popular game during past Payson tours has been the "Slapshot Challenge" that tests the speed and accuracy of fan's slapshots into a goal.
Arizona Public Service traditionally has on hand a slide and a "bounce around" that provides plenty of entertainment for younger tour visitors.
Other games include a bubble hockey challenge, an obstacle course and a "Between the Pipes" hockey challenge.
The first 100 who arrive at the tour will receive a complimentary ticket to any Coyotes 2002 preseason game.
According to Coyotes president Douglas Moss, the tour has received tremendous support from fans throughout the state.
"Interaction with our fans is a major priority for our team and, as we move towards our new home in Glendale this December, our players will continue to be even more involved with the community," he said.
After the tour kicks off at Rim country Mall, it is scheduled for stops in Flagstaff (Aug. 15), the Snowbowl (Aug. 16) and Prescott (Aug. 17).
