Even though there is still a week to go before school begins, our teachers have been very busy preparing for our students' return. Due to last year's success with the Accelerated Math program, we began our school year with training for teachers in grades third through fifth.
Teachers also returned a few days early to receive training in the Step-Up to Writing process; the continuation of training in a writing system that compliments the six-trait writing model currently used in all classrooms. To help support the use of these programs in classrooms, we are purchasing more classroom computer printers and updating our technology needs.
Teachers also will be receiving training in appropriate physical education activities to teach to each homeroom.
In addition to some new hardware on campus, we also welcome two new teachers: Darlene Daniels, our new Pre-First teacher and Michael Stern, our new morning kindergarten teacher. Another new face to greet you as you walk into our school is Laura David, our new secretary.
With the approaching completion of our new "cooking" kitchen, our custodians have been extra busy readying our entire school. Our newest custodian is Randy Kaufman, who will be on campus throughout the school day.
Our after school Wolf Impressions classes will resume Aug. 19 and continue throughout the first quarter of school. Thanks to the great response from the Credit for Kids campaign last year, funding for these after-school activities has been made possible. Band, chorus, and strings will continue to be available for students this year at FES. With students learning during these in school and after school opportunities, FES students will be achieving their best ever.
