Community Kids Looking For School Supplies

Payson Community Kids' annual back-to-school clothing and supplies drive is under way.

The group of about 50 young people sponsored by the town's Community Development Department is looking for donations of school supplies and new or gently used clothing in all sizes.

"We help the Time Out Shelter, and we have to dress the little ones for Head Start," PCK sponsor Marci Rogers said. "That's why we can use such a wide range of sizes."

One item in especially high demand is backpacks.

"We don't get a lot of nice backpacks donated," Rogers said.

Checks are especially welcome so necessary supplies and clothing not donated can be purchased.

"Even $10 checks help," Rogers said. "We can go to Wal-Mart and buy a lot of crayons and notebooks with $10."

PCK has a waiting list of 100 children, all from certified low-income families that need help. Donations can be dropped off at the water department or community development buildings at Payson Town Hall, or at the Payson Public Library, or either of the town's two fire stations.

Checks should be made out to Payson Community Kids and either brought to the Community Development building or mailed to Payson Community Kids, 303 N. Beeline Highway, Payson, AZ 85541.

The group recently qualified as a nonprofit organization, so donation letters are available for tax purposes.
