Q: I have a question about Sawmill Theaters. I was always under the impression -- from reading the advertisement in the newspaper --hat the theater was only open on Friday and Saturday. Two days ago, I heard from a friend that it is open seven days a week. Can you get to the bottom of this?
A: The caller has a point; the advertisement doesn't say specifically that the movie times are seven days a week. It does list the times, then adds the times for later movies on Fridays and Saturdays.
Q: I was wondering, with all the local concern over the illegal immigrants in our state, what is the town of Payson or Gila County doing to insure that the people living in this area are all legal residents?
A: Chief Gordon Gartner of the Payson Police Department said anything to do with illegal immigrants is primarily handled by the federal government through the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). "We treat everyone the same, whether they're a citizen or not. They get the same service and we enforce the laws the same. We don't make a report to INS unless we have found a large number of persons being transported or an arrest is made where there is a record of a felony. We notify the INS then, but they may or may not respond. We have many different types of immigrants in this town."
Det. George Ratliff of the Gila County Sheriff's Department said, "When we find any of them doing anything illegal, they will be arrested. But INS will not come into it unless it's a felony. In the past we have stopped transportation of a group and even had a ‘coyote' in custody and INS let them all loose."
