There will be two big events this weekend. One is Flag Day on Saturday, June 14th and the next day is Father's Day.
Tonto Village will be adding its little contribution to all the flag waving. The Tonto Village Fire District Auxiliary will be putting out flags all along Johnson Boulevard in honor of the day. Please help make our village a part of the grand celebration. Please put out your flag and fly it proudly.
Father's Day will be celebrated Sunday, June 15. Tell your fathers, grandfathers uncles, nephews, sons, etc. Happy Father's Day, and make sure you tell them you love them, and spoil and pamper them for the whole day.
The Tonto Village Fire District will be holding its monthly board meeting Saturday, June 14, starting at 10 a.m. at the fire station. The auxiliary has been asked to attend this meeting, so be there with your red shirts on.
The following Saturday, June 21, starting at 10 a.m., the fireboard will be reviewing the annual budget proposals for the coming year. It is very important that you attend this meeting. It will give you some idea how your tax money will be spent for the next year.
Going to the chapel
There has been a lot of activity at the chapel these past few weeks. A new kitchen has been put in along with new paint and an extra parking lot is being added for the increased number of parishioners that the chapel has been getting on Sunday mornings.
Vacation Bible school will be starting very soon. This year, Rita Sparling is in charge of registration. Call her for the dates and times at 478-0442 or 478-4282.
Shelby School is now holding open registration for their 2003-04 school year for new students. Shelby School offers quality education with a great deal of personal attention to the individual, because of the low student-to-teacher ratio.
The achievements of our graduates attest to Shelby School's success as a preparatory school. Contact the school at 478-4706 for more information.
Ethel and Danny Cain of the Double D Restaurant have announced that they will be holding a BBQ on Saturday, July 5th starting at noon. They have arranged for a deejay for musical entertainment whether it be dancing or sing along or karaoke. There will be more information in next weeks' column. In the meantime, jot the date on your calendar.
The musical melodrama entitled "We Found Gold" or "Always Wash Your Dirty Shirt Cause It Makes A Lotta Cents" will be at 7 p.m. June 19, 20, 21 with a 2 p.m. performance Saturday.
Remember that the performances are free, but you must call Pam McDaniel for a ticket. Seating is limited to those who hold tickets.

There are a few key people that are not included in this list that I will mention next week.
The ladies pool tourney was held at the Landmark this week. Where was that person with the dress and mustache? The winners were Nancy Olsen, Pat Bates and Michelle Bundy.
On Sunday, Chuck Huth, Betty Koutz, and Brett Zekoff took the top three places.
Congratulations to all the winners.
