Marty deMasi will officially become Payson's new fire chief June 21.
After serving several weeks as interim fire chief following John Ross' resignation in March, deMasi will formally take the reins of the department.
"It will be a big challenge," deMasi said, "but I'm looking forward to it."
deMasi has worked for the Payson fire department since 1983 and was promoted to battalion chief in 1986.
"I actually joined in 1978 as a volunteer and was hired full time in 1983," deMasi said.
deMasi is proud of the town's group of firefighters and emergency medical technicians.
"The firefighters here do a great job," deMasi said.
He also expressed his gratitude for all the public support he has received.
"The town staff and the folks in the community have been very supportive," deMasi said. "I just hope I can do a good job -- I'll work hard at it."
