Kathy Hinton has worked at the Mazatzal Casino since it opened its doors Sept. 3, 1993.
She is its Director of Human Resources and recently earned a certificate from the Society for Human Resources Management.
Hinton participated in a 10-week course at the University of Phoenix to earn the certificate.
"The tribe gives us the opportunity for professional development and I'm very grateful for it," Hinton said.
The course helped enhance her job skills, she said.
Hinton attended college in Kansas and took classes through the Payson satellite branch of Eastern Arizona College, and although interruptions in her education prevented her from graduating, she was dedicated to her career choice and persevered in her training until she earned the University of Phoenix certificate.
"I want to dedicate this certificate to my nephew, Bobby Waterman. He was recently killed in an ATV accident," she said. "He was working to get his automotive technician certification in Globe. He was very good working with motors, but he couldn't really charge for his work until he was certified."
