Hectic and busy times are coming to Tonto Village.
Most of our neighbors are rehearsing for the melodrama being presented this weekend, June 20 and 21, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Christopher Creek. Performances are at 7 p.m., with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Many people are contributing to the performance as crew members. Shirley Clawson is the rehearsal manager and her crew members are Linda Stailey, Connie Weldon and Vicki Grootegoed. Mae Jones is the stage manager and her crew includes Phon and Dara Sutton and Dick Jones. Production manager, Pam McDaniel, also has Donny McDaniel and Lynn Godfey on her crew. Claudia Gessel is in charge of costumes and Maurine Kirchhoefer is in charge of hair and makeup. As you can see, if you have read the previous columns, there are many people involved in this production, and each one is a vital and valuable part of the whole melodrama.
Call Pam McDaniel at 478-0313 to reserve your tickets. Tickets are free, but you must have one in order to be admitted. There is limited seating for each performance.
The next big affair coming to Tonto Village is the 4th of July celebration, which will be held July 5. Danny and Ethel Cain are in charge of all the festivities this year at the Double D Restaurant. The day will start with a barbecue beef dinner, complete with cowboy beans and coleslaw. Serving will be from noon to whenever the food runs out. Then at 1 p.m., a patriotic parade will begin at the Tonto Village Chapel parking lot and continue up Johnson Boulevard. All kids, quads and people dressed up as Uncle Sam are welcome to join in. Come equipped with emergency gear and plenty of water.
Birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
Happy anniversary to Grant and Marie Coley who will be celebrating their 38th wedding anniversary July 18.
Birthday wishes go to Lori Mulvey, June 17; Nancy Olson, June 24; and Danny Cain, June 26. Happy birthday to you all.
On Sunday, only one fellow showed up at the pool tournament, I guess they were all busy being pampered by family and friends, since it was Father's Day. So the gals took over the pool tables. Winners were Ethel Cain, JoAnn Kennedy and Betty Koutz. On Tuesday evening, Ladies Day, the winners were Patty Boeschling, Phyllis Mullen and JoAnn Kennedy.
Tonto Village Fire District
There is a special meeting of the fire board Saturday, June 21 to ratify the budget for the coming fiscal year, 2003-04. The meeting will start at 10 a.m. at the fire station office. This meeting is open to the public and all interested people are invited to attend. Chief Alliger would like to remind everyone that the red flag is out, which means no open fires. Total fire restrictions will be in place by Friday, June 20 for all of the Tonto National Forest.
God forbid that we will need this, but an evacuation check list is available for everyone in the district at the fire station. Pick up your copy as soon as possible.
Fire Department Auxiliary News
The meeting of the board last Saturday had the auxiliary out in force with their red shirts on and an itemized list for the board members listing the fund-raisers, six in all, that have been presented since 1999. To date, the total monies dispersed by the auxiliary and given to the district totals $7,443.
That's a huge accomplishment for such a small group of volunteers. Sadly, because of the lack of volunteers, the auxiliary will not be hosting any function for the July 4 get-together.
The auxiliary desperately needs men or women to volunteer their time to help with future fund-raisers. Call the fire station at 478-4875, Phyllis Mullen at 478-4842, or Janet Snyder at 478-4606, if you would like to help in any way.
