The Rim Country Middle School basketball team recently wrapped up its regular season in the White Mountain League with a second-place finish. Many of the players have turned their attention to the school's first baseball team. The squad debuted yesterday (Thursday) on the PHS diamond. (Results not available at press time).

The inaugural team returns to action March 24 when it visits Big Park.

The highlight of the season for the Mavericks will be participation in the Super Series Easter Classic youth baseball tournament April 18 to 20 at the Peoria Sports Complex.

The complex is currently the site of major league spring training and in May hosts the high school state tournaments.

Many of the athletes on the RCMS baseball team were members of the Maverick eighth-grade basketball squad that compiled a 9-9 record on its way to a second-place showing in the final White Mountain League standings.

Coach Rory Huff assesses the players as ones that "should be good additions to the high school program next year."

The team was fueled most of the season by leading scorers Bryson Addington (8.1 ppg), Alex Bunk (7.8 ppg) and Hunter Hardt (6.9 ppg).

Point guard Miles Huff, the coach's son, performed the role of playmaker and floor general throughout the WML season.
