Roosevelt Lake Boat Ramps Open For Use

With the recent moisture from several storms, the runoff from the Salt River watershed has increased the amount of water in Roosevelt Lake dramatically. The lake is currently at 22 percent capacity and water levels continue to rise.

The Tonto Basin Ranger District is reopening the Cholla Recreation Site Boat Ramp and the Badger Boat Ramp at the Windy Hill Recreation Site.

The Cholla Boat Ramp is now in the water, and is open and available for boat launching. Camping facilities are available at the Cane Cholla and Teddy Bear Cholla Loops of the campground. These loops provide 60 single and double sites for overnight camping, with ramadas, tables, firerings, flush toilets, shower facilities, and a fish cleaning station.

The Badger Boat Ramp on the west side of Windy Hill has 60 feet of ramp in the water and will open Friday, March 21. Of the four boat ramps at Windy Hill, the Badger Ramp is the only ramp in the water.

The Coyote Loop of the Windy Hill Campground will also be reopened for use by the public with 72 camping sites. Ramadas, tables, and firerings are provided.

Due to problems with the water system, showers and flush toilets will not be available. Temporary toilet facilities will be available. Currently potable water is not available at the Coyote Loop camping sites.

Camping fees are being reduced to $4 per vehicle per day. Fees can be paid with cash or credit card at the fee machines, or by using the 2003 Annual Pass. This fee structure will apply until further notice.
