Bark beetle and fire awareness seminars will be held the next two weekends in opposite ends of the Rim country.
The first is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, March 28, at Christopher Kohl's Fire Department.
A week later, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., a second seminar will be held at the Pine Cultural Center.
Both seminars open with presentations by Gila County Extension Agent Christopher Jones titled "Forest Health and Firewise." Ed Armenta, District Ranger with the Payson Ranger District, also will address both groups.
Those attending the Christopher Kohl's seminar also will hear Sarah Nelson, marketing coordinator for the Regional Payson Area Project. The Pine seminar also will feature Pine/Strawberry Fire Chief Paul Coe talking about fire danger in the Pine area and Don Smith, fire board clerk, who will discuss mobilizing field volunteers.
Both seminars are free, and bark beetle information packets will be available for $5.
