Buddy and Jake Randall were the only Rim country anglers to finish in the top 10 at the AllStar Bass Team Tournament March 16 at Bartlett Lake.
The Payson team weighed in 8.72 pounds of bass to finish ninth in the 81-team field. For their efforts, the two pocketed $350 in prize money.
The winning duo, father and son Ray and Aaron Earven of Miami, teamed up to weigh in a six-bass limit of 16.45 pounds. In their catch was the tournament's big fish winner -- a 6.40-pound largemouth bass. The champs also weighed in a 5-plus-pound bass.
The two, who were fishing their first tournament together, earned $6,000 in prize money.
According to AllStar officials, successful angling strategy included fishing both ends of the lake on crankbaits and tube baits. Several anglers had luck fishing near the dam.
Some teams opted to fish spider jigs and darter head finesse worms on main lake points.
The next AllStar bass tournament will be held April 5 at Alamo Lake. For more information, call (480) 894-2775.
