It's April and your summer wedding is suddenly too big for any facility in town to handle. You're having an old-fashioned, cowboy wedding, so you decide to rent the event center for the festivities.
It is going to cost you more this summer than it would have cost you last summer. Fees for some of the Payson Parks and Recreation programs are increasing.
The town council approved the increases at its March 27 meeting. The additional funds will help the department cover more of its costs for programs and activities.
"These are modest increases in fees at the pool, event center and some special events. We do our best to break even. (Compared to similar programs) we are very, very affordable," Bill Schwind, director of the parks and recreation department told the council.
Just about every program at the pool will see an increase. The only exceptions are the adult lap swim, synchronized swimming, Discover Scuba and Bubble Makers programs.
The big increases were for pool parties. In the past this fee ranged from $30 to $60 for parties between 50 and 200 people. The new fees will be from $60 for a small party with 50 or fewer guests; $125 for parties with between 51 and 100 people; and $250 for parties with 101 to 200 people.
Another big jump is in the water aerobics program. It has been $25 for the entire season, now it will cost $40.
All the fees for use of the event center are increasing. New fees have been added, including an application fee of $15; a refundable security deposit of $250; an alcohol permit, $10; and vendor lights, $10.
The arena-use fee itself is increasing to $150 from $50.
Schwind was asked about waiving the fees for non-profits, such as the ministerial association for a Sunrise Service. Schwind said no distinction is made for non-profits, however, the fees are waived for youth activities, such as gymkhanas.
