Clair Milton Johns, 87, died April 29, 2003 in Payson. He was born July 20, 1915 in Wellington, Ohio, and resided in Brecksville, Ohio for 50 years.
He graduated from Lorain High School in Lorain, Ohio, and attended Fenn College (now Cleveland State University) in Cleveland.
Mr. Johns worked as a mechanical engineer for 43 years for Cleveland Worm & Gear Co., Eaton Corporation and Cleveland Gear Company, retiring in 1980.
He was an Eagle Scout and a Scoutmaster, and he served on the Planning Commission in Brecksville, Ohio. He was widely traveled, visiting every state in the continental United States, many points in Canada and several countries in Europe. For many years, he canoed with the Keelhaulers Canoe Club of Northeast Ohio. He was a member of the Cuyahoga Valley Genealogical Society, Computer Assisted Genealogy Group and Lorain County Genealogical Society in Ohio, and of the Northern Gila County Genealogical Society in Payson.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Grace E. (Helm); son, Ralph of Missoula, Mont.; daughters, Susan Caddell of Portland, Ore., Joanna Hurley of Alliance, Ohio and Carol Johns of Wolf Point, Mont; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Messinger Payson Funeral Home.
