The Payson Roundup is one of five state newspapers receiving general excellence awards in the Arizona Newspapers Foundation 2003 Advertising contest.
The Roundup won 13 first- or second-place awards in a number of categories to earn the general excellence award.
"This is all about a dedicated team of people working together to create a product the entire community can be proud of," Roundup publisher Richard Haddad said.
The Roundup won first place for Best Single Paid Ad (black and white), Most Effective Use of Paid Small Space, and Best "Pro Bono" Public Service Ad.
Two of the first-place awards were for ads created for the U.S. Forest Service following the Rodeo-Chediski Fire last summer.
The Roundup won the general excellence award and all the other awards in the non-daily, 3,500-10,000 category.
Other general excellence winners were the Camp Verde Journal (non-daily under 3,500), Ahwatukee Foothills News (non-daily, greater than 10,000), The Yuma Sun (daily, less than 25,000), and The Tribune (daily, greater than 25,000). A total of 45 newspapers entered the competition.
The awards were presented Friday, April 25, at Westward Look Resort in Tucson.
