Pettet's Crew Readies For State Race

The Payson Longhorns (19-9 overall, 7-3 in the East) begin pursuit of the school's second state baseball title at 9 a.m. May 9 on Field 4 of the Maryvale Baseball Park.

The Horns enter the first round of the state championship as the East region's No. 2 seed and will play the South's No. 3 finisher.

Eloy and Chandler Seton tied for the region's bronze medal slot. A coin flip will be held to determine which team will advance to state as No. 3 and which will fall to the fourth and final state qualifying berth.

At press time, the coin flip had not been held.

If the Horns win their first round game, they would advance to a second round contest to be played at 9 a.m. May 10 also at Maryvale Baseball Park.

The tournament semifinals are slated for May 16 and the state championship will be played at 7 p.m. May 17.

The Horns wrapped up the regular season May 2 with a 4-2 loss to East champion Show Low.

Show Low opens state play against the South's No. 4 finisher.
