The Payson Mens Golf Association tuned up for tomorrow's (Wednesday) trip to Quailwood Country Club in Dewey with a low gross/low net tournament held May 7 at Payson Golf Course.
In Dewey, the PMGA members will be competing in their first interclub meet of the summer links season.
Later this summer, the PMGA is slated to travel to White Mountain Beaver Creek, Elephant Rock and Verde Santa Fe country clubs.
The local low gross/low net formatted tournament drew 38 PMGA members who competed in three flights.
The low gross winners included John Pauley (first flight), Ralph Lindo (second) and Hugh Templeton (third). Pauley carded a 71, Linda finished at 86 and Templeton tallied a 92.
In first flight low net play, Gary Vaplon captured the gold with a 65. Trailing in second place with a 70 was Don Castleman.
Second flight low net competition turned heated when Larry Baker (70) edged runnerup Warren Mulcahy (71) by one stroke.
In the third flight, Dick McNatt finished at 59 to earn top honors. With a 70, Don Gyde was the silver medalist.
Closest-to-the-pin winners included Den Bulkley, No.2, at 25 feet, 4 inches; Larry Baker, No. 5, at 18 feet, 2-1/2 inches; Chris Cumpton, No. 8, at 12 inches; Dick Ceyler, No. 14, 7 feet, 9 inches and Harry Sogan, 6 feet, 2 inches.
