Rim country tennis teaching pro and Payson Tennis School owner Diane Jackson has issued a personal invitation for court buffs to hone their skills at a series of summer lessons.
"Youths and adults of all abilities are invited to register," Jackson said.
Classes, to be sponsored by the Town of Payson Parks and Recreation Department, will be held each Monday and Wednesday from June 2 to 13 on the Rumsey Park courts.
Youngsters, ages 6 to 8, will meet from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Participants 9 to 11 are slated for 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Those 12-years and over will take to the court from 11 a.m. to noon.
During the sessions, Jackson will teach the fledgling players proper forehand, backhand, serving and volley techniques.
As the young players become more proficient, she plans on having them participate in doubles competition.
Also in the curriculum will be game scoring and tennis etiquette.
The evening hours in the program have been reserved for adults.
Beginners are slated for 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the intermediate/ advanced groups are on the agenda for 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
For the more advanced players, Jackson will add instruction in overhead hits and lobs to the teaching program.
"Class sizes are limited to eight, so reserve your spot today," Jackson said. Registration, which opened May 6, may be completed at the Green Valley Park office of the P&R department. The fee is $20 per person or $25 with a T-shirt. Participants must have their own tennis racquet. For more information, call Jackson at 474-0583 or the P&R Department at 474-5242, extension 7.
