It's starting to warm up and we all need to be careful when we are outside.
If you smoke, please discard your cigarettes properly. Never throw a cigarette out a car window and do not put one out on the ground. We need to take care of our forest.
Speaking of taking care of the forest we love. There is a petition on www.petitionpetition.com/cgi/petition.cgi?id =5546 that all of us need to sign. It is an emergency order for forest restoration. It starts out, "We the undersigned registered voters and residents of the United States of America, do hereby request that President George W. Bush draft and sign an emergency order to facilitate the immediate removal of all dead and burnt trees from public land."
We need to try and get everyone we know to sign this petition before we have another deadly forest fire due to the dry conditions and the bad state of our forest. The bark beetle has destroyed millions of trees and turned our forest into a tinderbox. If everyone in the state would sign this, we might have a chance.
This Saturday, May 17 is the Annual Rusty Cooper Golf Tournament. It's always fun to go out and watch the golfers. It is a fun tournament and the money raised goes to scholarships for Payson High School students.
Saturday, May 24 is the start of bingo at the Fire Hall So get your daubers out and get ready for a fun evening. Your master of ceremonies will be Mike Millburn. He has generously offered to take over calling the bingo games. This should be a lot of fun.
I think Mike missed his calling and should have been a stand-up comedian, so I know you are all in for many fun nights at bingo. There will be a potluck at 6 p.m. and bingo starts at 7 p.m.
The Landmark is having a summer Blues Weekend. It starts Friday, May 23 and goes through to Sunday, May 25 with lots of good entertainment to enjoy.
The FireBelles are gearing up for their big "funfest" on May 31. Join them for a fun- filled day of games and events at the Christopher/Kohl's Fire Department. They are planning a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a craft and bake sale, games and prizes and more. Please come and bring the kids. All proceeds go to the fire department. If you would like to help out. Call Dee at 478-0010.
