Billy Ray Black


Billy Ray Black, 72, resident of Payson, died May 14, 2003. He was born May 23, 1930.

Mr. Black served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1947-1951 as an aviation mechanic, receiving a Good Conduct Medal.

In 1951, he joined the Norton Air Force Base Fire Department as a firefighter, and retired in 1979 as Chief. Billy belonged to the Moose Lodge, American Legion, Eagles and Elks.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Martha Mary; three sons: Christopher, Richard and Michael; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Fred and Jack, and one stepdaughter, Cheryl.

His daughter, Barbara preceded him in death in 1999.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Black's body was donated to Science Care Anatomical for medical research.

Arrangements were handled by Messinger Payson Funeral Home.
