Temperatures Rising In Rim Country

Whew! The temperatures shot up when I was not ready. I haven't gotten all of my summer clothes out yet, I was still using sweat pants and long-sleeve shirts. I had errands in Payson today and the temperature was 91 degrees.

It's summer, folks! That means more part-time residents of Tonto Village and the surrounding area will be making their trek to the Rim country for the summer, trying to get away from the 100-degree-plus temperatures in the valley. It also means much more traffic on our streets, and all residents need to be more cautious of increased activity. The speed limit is 25 mph, so please slow your vehicles down.

Fire restrictions

I am sure that you have read the Payson Roundup and noticed that fire restrictions are now in effect. Those restrictions include Tonto Village north of the Control Road and all the way to Tonto Natural Bridge. This means that there will be no open campfires, no charcoal grills or stove fires allowed within the restricted area, which includes all homes and private property. Smoking will be restricted to enclosed vehicles and buildings.

If you would like to have more information, please call the Tonto Village Fire Station at 478-4875.

New arrivals

Lori Mulvey is a very happy person these days. Her daughter, Colleen, and her son-in-law, Epie Vicente, presented Lori with two more grandchildren. Colleen and Epie had twin boys last week and now Lori is a grandmother 12 times over!

Colleen and Epie live in Prescott Valley, so Lori spent some quality time with her new grandsons. Congratulations to all of you.

Pool racked

There was no pool game this past Sunday. There were not enough interested players. If you think that you could chase those balls around a pool table and win, come out to the Double D Restaurant on any Sunday at 3 p.m. You just might become a winner and have your name in the paper.

There are many birthdays this week. On May 12, Chuck Huth celebrated his big day. I forgot to mention Chuck's big day last week. Sorry Chuck.

Grant Coley and Mike Preston share their birthday May 25. Alice Andreas adds another candle to her birthday cake May 27, and then Grace Preston will celebrate her big day May 28.

We have a long weekend this week, but please do not forget why there is a three-day weekend. Fly your flag and remember the servicemen who gave the supreme sacrifice of their lives to help keep the United States a free country.

God bless America.
