An early morning accident on west-bound Highway 260 claimed the life of a 29-year-old Payson resident.
Jason Gutierrez was ejected from his vehicle in a rollover accident at milepost 263.5, according to Department of Public Safety Officer Vern Havens.
The accident involved only the Gutierrez vehicle, and he was its only occupant, Havens said.
The accident is still under investigation, but it appears multiple factors were its cause, Havens said.
Explaining the accident, the officer said the vehicle was westbound, slightly down hill as it went through a left hand curve and drifted off the right hand side of the roadway.
"The driver over-corrected to the left, traveled and rotated across both lanes of traffic. He exited the east bound lanes and impacted the embankment, then rotated and rolled back across 260," Havens said.
The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and the vehicle came to rest on the west-side shoulder on its roof.
"The driver was a short distance away," Havens said.
Investigators believe Gutierrez died of massive blunt trauma.
