Interested in becoming a certified reserve police officer? Pending enough qualified candidates, Payson's reserve police academy will begin in March at Gila Community College.
"We are going to re-open the selection process," Payson Police Lt. Don Engler said. "Those who missed the first go-round will have another opportunity."
Completion of the local academy means that graduates can either serve as reserve officers or get hired as police officers at any department in Arizona.
The department will be holding two informational meetings about the program Friday, Dec. 5 and Wednesday, Dec. 17. The meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. in the college meeting room.
"We hope to get the selection process going by mid-December," Engler said.
Engler said prospective candidates for the reserve academy will be subject to a background check, written test, a physical test, a practical examination and an oral test during the hiring process.
