Pine/Strawberry School will be on fall break from Oct. 6 through Oct. 17. The office will be open the first week but closed Oct. 13th through the Oct.17.
Parent-child Family Read Night is Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Activities involving poetry will emphasize ways that parents can help increase the reading skills of their children. All school families are encouraged to attend.
The school's Fall Festival is Thursday, Oct. 30 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the school gym. This is a fund-raiser for the 8th grade. There will be food, games, booths, a costume contest and a hayride. Everyone is invited to be part of the fun and support the eighth grade project.
Auction items are needed for the silent auction, which is part of the Rim Country Antique and Craft Festival sponsored by the Pine-Strawberry Historical Society. Antiques, collectibles, new and gently used merchandise and gift certificates are still needed. Donations may be dropped off at the museum or call 476-4791 or 476-2508 to arrange for pickup. All donations are tax deductible and all proceeds benefit the historical society.
The weekend of Oct. 11 and 12 will be a busy one in Pine and Strawberry.
The Rim Country Antique and Craft Festival will be at the Pine Community Center, in the school gymnasium and on the school playground. There will be the appraisal clinic, silent auction, arts and crafts booths and a pit barbecue and fall deserts.
Appraisal clinic tickets for the oral appraisal clinic featuring Harry Rinker are available at the Pine Strawberry Museum. Tickets are $10 per item to be appraised and are sold for a particular time slot. Tickets are also available at the door, but to avoid a long wait, buy your tickets in advance. Everyone is invited to watch Rinker, HGTV's Collector Inspector, do his appraisals for no charge. He is very entertaining, as well as knowledgeable. The appraisal clinic is part of the antique and craft festival in Pine on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 11 and 12.
The pit barbecue will be on Saturday from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. in the cultural hall. The barbecue beef, cooked by Albert Hunt, will be served with potato salad, ranch beans, rolls and a drink for just $6 per person.
Fall desserts will be served by the Rim Country Chamber of Commerce in the ramada at the community center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Anyone willing to bake a fall dessert for this event, please call 476-2239 or 476-3064. Your contributions would be greatly appreciated.
The Pine/Strawberry Holiday Boutique will be open during the Oct. 11 and 12 Fall Festival weekend from 9 a.m. to 4 in the arts and crafts room at the community center. It will continue to be open every Saturday and Sunday through October and November from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The final weekend, Thanksgiving weekend, the boutique will be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This is a great opportunity to do some holiday gift buying.
