Business Gives Owner A Chance To Do What He Enjoys

Mark Frantzke opened his business because of his interest in four-wheel-drive vehicles.

"And people kept telling me we needed a business like this up here," he said.

Mark Frantzke has been a 4x4 enthusiast for as long as he has been driving, and now he gets to work with what he loves. Frantzke opened Outlaw 4x4 & Accessories in May to provide a service to Rim residents and visitors who share his interests.

Outlaw 4x4 & Accessories sells and installs four-wheel-drive components and accessories. Included in his inventory are suspension lifts, specialty rims and tires, spray-in bed liners, window tinting and all sorts of bumpers, lights, light guards, fenders. If the store doesn't have what a customer is looking for, it can be ordered.

"(We try to carry all the) accessories that the four-wheel drive enthusiast would require and enjoy," he said. "The company's advantage is that not only does it sell the products, we do the installation."

Frantzke is assisted in the installation part of the business by his technician, Jon Lenzmeier.

In addition to the 4x4 products, Outlaw also has accessories for quads and all-terrain vehicles, such as carrier racks and gun racks.

He said his installation service is not restricted to equipment and accessories purchased in his store.

"We'll do whatever it takes," he said. This includes helping solve problems do-it-yourselfers might run into when installing their own custom accessories.

"I enjoy doing it. It's fun," Frantzke said. "The financial rewards and the time is not there yet, but it is still gratifying to help a customer."

Frantzke has been in Payson for three years and while he has been self-employed for the past 10 years, some Rim residents might know him from the Bummer Car kits he used to sell. These 4-wheel drive vehicles resembled the high-end Humvees (aka Hummers).

He said he came to Payson because of the climate and the area's lack of traffic, pollution and crime.

"I love it up here. I definitely enjoy the small town appeal of Payson," he said.

Frantzke is also very involved in the community. He is vice president for Little League and has the responsibility of arranging sponsors, operation of the snack bar and selling the large placards that hang on the field fences during games.

"I don't have a child that plays," he said. "I just saw an article where they were advertising for help and if they didn't get it, they might have had to disband, so I stepped up."

He is also part of the adult softball league and sponsors the Rim Country 4-Wheelers, providing a discount at his store for the group's members.

While he does not have much free time, Frantzke said he still enjoys fishing and camping and anything else that will get him outdoors.

Outlaw 4x4 & Accessories is at 612 S. Beeline Highway. It is open from 8 a.m to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday.
