Lots Of Cleaning And Clearing For Fall

The village residents are sprucing up their homes with decorations for Halloween. The leaves will be turning a beautiful gold and russet very soon and then falling to give us some time outdoors raking all of them. Fall is my particular favorite time of year. I love the crispness of the air and the smell of the leaves burning.

Community loses a friend

Tonto Village lost one of its residents recently. Michelle Long passed away after a lingering illness. Michelle was the mother of Dwayne and Leon Long.

A memorial service was held at the Tonto Village Chapel this past Saturday.

My deepest sympathies to the Long family for their loss.

Tonto Village Fire District

The Tonto Village Fire District Board will meet at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 11 at the fire station. The meeting is open to the public.

There is a call to the public at the end of the meeting which allows any comments by the people attending to voice their opinions or questions. Please attend and support your fire district.

Chief J.R. Alliger reminds everyone to keep up with the brush and debris in their yards. The chipper/ shredder can be available to you to shred the debris. It makes very good mulch for your garden and shrubs. Call the fire station and make a date that you would like one of the volunteer firefighters to come to your home and shred your brush.

Birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

Rick Schantz, who is the safety officer at Christopher/Kohl's volunteer fire department, celebrated his big day Oct. 8.

Harvey Poyner and Betty Koutz will share their birthday Oct. 14. Both Harvey and Betty love to play pool and are pretty darn good at it too.

Linda Stailey's birthday is Oct. 17. We won't tell how many candles will be on the cake, and she will probably make her own. Linda is our favorite caterer in the village. Linda has made some very beautiful cakes for all occasions over the years.

Oct. 12, Bill and I will celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary. Sometimes the road has been a bit bumpy, but we weathered it and raised five great children along the way. We are now blessed with 10 wonderful grandchildren.

Bear Flat News

This past Saturday was Fall Brush Pick-up Day. Pat McCauley arranged this for the second time this year to help clear brush from around the homes in Bear Flat.

Pat arranged to have Tree Pro come down and make mulch for the yards in the area from the brush and debris that was collected. Pat is considered by her neighbors and friends as an unsung hero for her tireless efforts in contributing her skills in organizing the neighborhood.

Everyone benefits from this endeavor, and ensures a good fire break around the homes. Pat deserves a huge pat on the back for all her hard work.

Pool Shots

Ladies Night on Tuesday for nine ball was successful for Patty Boeschling, Phyllis Mullen and JoAnn Kennedy. They shot for the top three spots.

This past Sunday was an open tournament for gals and guys, but the guys were the winners again this week. Cliff Landrum, Doug Paul and Earl Randleman took the three top spots. I guess the gals need more practice to win over the guys.

Tonto Village Chapel

There will be a potluck luncheon this Sunday starting at 1 p.m. after church and Bible study. This event is always a big hit with so many different dishes to choose from and good conversation with your neighbors. Bring a dish along and enjoy the afternoon.
