Elaine Marie Houghton-Parsons, 48, died Sept. 20, 2003. She was born June 19, 1955, in Panama, to Gordon Houghton and Maria de Jesus Houghton. She died after a nine-year battle with ovarian cancer.
Mrs. Parsons was a graduate of North Central High School in Spokane, Wash. and an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard during the Vietnam era, where she served with distinction and was honorably discharged.
She received her business degree and worked in finance for the Seattle Times and Digital Equipment Corporation in California and Arizona.
She was an artist and created many gifts for friends and family.
Mrs. Parsons moved to Payson and purchased a home in 1999. She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Payson. She had a deep and abiding faith and strove to serve others, working in the church office and with youth, until she was not physically able.
She is survived by her mother, Maria de Jesus Rodriguez of Chepo, Panama; brother, William Houghton; sisters, LaRaine Wilson and Coreen Houghton; nephews and nieces, Wendall Wilson, Carl Wilson, Heather Martinez, Markus Houghton, Andra Elaine Houghton, Sarah Donovan and Lacy Rose Donovan; as well as many other family members and close friends.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 at Community Presbyterian Church in Payson.
