What's Up?

Q: Why are there hand-lettered signs for Moonlight Drive and Rainbow in Star Valley? Are the roads in Star Valley being renamed?

A: Mariano Gonzalez, deputy director of Gila County Emergency Services, the office in charge of the street name project, said the county only posts official street signs, with green backgrounds and white lettering. His staff would look into the hand-lettered signs in Star Valley.

As for re-naming streets in Star Valley, Gonzalez said before any new names are proposed, the county staff will meet with residents.

"We are doing some road naming, but we are trying to rename as few as possible," Gonzalez said. "We want to try to avoid duplication of names and to do this we might suggest adding a suffix to the name."

He said currently county staff is in Northern Gila County to meet with residents in neighborhoods where it may be necessary to change street name.

Notices are being posted and meetings are taking place to get citizen input before any street name proposals go to the board of supervisors.
