Mary J. Hilgendorf, 67, of Vicksburg, Mich., formerly of Durand, Mich., died Sept. 4, 2003 at her winter home in Payson. She was born Jan. 6, 1936 in Goodrich, Mich., the daughter of George and Pearl (Bentley) Bradford. She attended Durand High School.
She married Edward T. Hilgendorf on Jan. 31, 1954 at the Durand Church of the Nazarene. Mrs. Hilgendorf was a member of the Durand Church of the Nazarene where she put in numerous years of volunteer service. She began teaching Sunday School as a teen and continued to serve in children's ministry for several years.
Mrs. Hilgendorf worked for the Durand School District for seven years. She was a volunteer for 13 years with Flint Service Federal Credit Union; 14 years with Southwest Indian School; and also at Indian Lake Nazarene Camp. However, she considered being a homemaker to be her best life's work.
Survivors include her daughter, Charlene (Ron) Piggott; three sons, Larry (Kathy) Hilgendorf, Tim (Sondi) Hilgendorf, all of Payson, and Kevin (Jacki) Hilgendorf, of Ovid; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Ron Bradford, of Indiana; sister, Jackie Gilbert, of Durand; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Hilgendorf; and daughter, Penny Lynn Hilgendorf.
Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 12, 2003 at the Durand Church of the Nazarene in Michigan. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
