Operating their business only on weekends since July has proved so successful for Lauri and Arden Edgell, they will now have the Pine business operating Tuesday through Saturday.
Starting the first week in October, A Touch from Heaven Therapeutic Massage and Mini Day Spa will be open in Pine's Bishop Park five days a week.
Their preliminary, casual marketing surveys showed there was a demand for their services, the community has only one other active massage therapist and from what the Edgell's have heard, she has her hands full.
The alternative is driving 15 miles to Payson.
"Who wants to have a massage and drive 15 miles," Lauri asked. "You're intoxicated from a massage, you can get pulled over."
The couple have commuted between their home and jobs in the Valley to run the weekend business in Pine, but their home just sold, so they are now able to come to the Rim country as full-time residents.
"The clientele has found us," she said. "We're doing a lot better than we thought we'd be doing at this point."
They had been making weekend visits to the area to get away from the stress of life in the Valley and loved it so much they started asking themselves if it would be possible to have a home in the area and work here as well.
They started researching the possibility, they asked around and heard massage therapy would be well received.
"So we went for it. Things just seemed to start falling into place, we found this space," Arden said. "We applied for a small business loan, received it, then gutted the office space and did all the remodeling work ourselves."
They wanted to have a business in Pine because they think it is absolutely beautiful and an ideal location for relaxation, Lauri said.
The couple chose to give the business a heavenly theme because their goal is to bless people and serve.
"We want people to walk out of here with a different frame of mind," Arden said. "We want to give clients a complete experience in comfort and relaxation. We use aromatherapy and surround sound and the there is sound proofing in the massage room."
Lauri does the massages and Arden takes care of the business. They provide only four massages a day, scheduling them at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., but they are at the spa from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no retail offered yet, only the massages, but in the future, full foot massages will be added to their list of services.
Currently. massages available include LaStone therapy, which uses heated basalt stones; salt glow, which combines a massage with exfoliation mineral treatment for the skin; deep tissue; Swedish; trigger point therapy; plus special massage treatments for pregnant women and the elderly.
"Massage is your art work. You're supposed to find one and make it your own specialty," Lauri said. "I put together one from all I learned and then further tailor it to my clients' individual needs. I do deep massages. I'm small, but very strong. It's a therapy and that's what my clients are looking for. I have a real passion and people can feel that."
Arden said they also want to get involved in the community.
"We want to serve, we love people," he said. "We also want to be a complement to our neighboring businesses. Word of mouth is our primary marketing tool, but you can't beat the business of relaxation"
