Robert Ware has resigned as executive director of the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Ware will leave his position Oct. 10 to become director of the Peoria, Ariz. Chamber of Commerce.
"It's time to move to something larger," Ware said. "We have a great staff in place here, a good board and wonderful volunteers."
"We're very sorry to see him go, but certainly understand his reasons for doing so," said Judy Miller, president of the chamber's board of directors.
"He has done a very good job," she said.
Ware, who was the director of the Mogollon Health Alliance before coming to the chamber more than two years ago, brought a varied business background to the job, plus a master's degree in business administration.
"I have found the experience of representing the interests of the chamber members to be both fascinating and pleasurable." he said. "It is very easy to speak highly of the Arizona Rim country. The biggest reward (of the job) has been being able to assist many organizations with what they wanted to accomplish. If everyone in town would volunteer a little of their time we could get a lot done. This is a very giving town."
He said the chamber has a good rural area to market, but it will always be a struggle because the area is competing with all of Arizona and the Southwest.
Miller said the chamber board is meeting Tuesday to discuss the process to find Ware's replacement. This will include deciding the salary range it can offer.
Ware said his job responsibilities in Peoria will be very similar to those he has had here and while he does not expect to be able to train his replacement, he said he will always be available by phone to help.
