The board of directors of the Christopher-Kohl's Fire District has dismissed controversial Fire Chief Kent Courtney.

A special meeting was held by the board at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24. Board President Power Webb said, "Yes, we let the fire chief go. As far as my comments on it, I'm going to leave it at that for now."

Board member Mikey Marazza said she would not comment on the actions of the board, and referred the Roundup to Webb, as did the third member of the board, Jerry Fisher.

The board and Courtney have been at odds for some time, with the board placing responsibility for an ongoing recall drive against them in the chief's lap.

Courtney and the people organizing the recall have said he is not involved in the campaign.

Long-time Assistant Fire Chief Bob Lusson will serve as the Christopher-Kohl's acting chief, Marazza said.
