Village Visitors Arrive; Be Patient

The Village was busy this weekend with many of our part-time residents coming up for the Easter Holiday. There also was clearing of pine needles and getting their cabins ready for another summer season.

It was good to see so many of them are starting their weekends with us in the Village.

There also are many cabins up for sale this spring, so I would guess that there will be many more lookers/buyers in our area.

A word of caution to our regular residents: Watch for slow-moving vehicles looking at these houses for sale, and be a bit more patient and slow down for them.

Gila County Election Board

Elections Director Dixie Mundy called this week and asked me to help with the Payson Unified School District budget-override proposal.

The election will be May 18, and it will be similar to the Presidential Preference election a few months ago.

The Zane Grey District will be accepting ballots and there will be a voting booth. The place has been changed due to the R-Bar-C having prior commitments. The new location will be in Christopher Creek at the Bible Fellowship Church. The church is on top of the hill next to the fire station.

The polling place will be open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. If you prefer to mail in your vote, you are reminded to mail your ballot no later than May 19 if you want your vote to count.

New numbering system for area

The Gila County Emergency Services, under the auspices of Trudy Corey, head dispatcher at the Gila County Sheriff's Office, has started the Gila County Rural Addressing Program with the help of all the fire chiefs in the county. Trudy has given them the beginning of the new physical addresses for the emergency 911 program for our area starting with Bear Flats.

The contact persons in Bear Flats is Phon and Dara Sutton. Those of you in Bear Flats are urged to go to the Sutton Home at 5052 Bear Flat Road to pick up your packet of information.

The phone number for the Suttons is (928) 478-0052 if you have any questions as to how to get there. They are located in the second meadow. I will be the contact person for Tonto Village when the packets for us arrive. I will let you know then when and where to pick up your packets. One more tidbit from Bear Flats: The Suttons keep track of the rainfall at Bear Flats. Although totally unofficial, the amount of precipitation that has fallen this year is quite low. So far, 6.74 inches have fallen compared to 11.33 inches this time last year. The drought is not over, and fire danger will be with us this summer, so everyone needs to be extremely cautious about any combustible substances.
